Reach Out & Read

We are excited to announce the establishment of Reach Out and Read at Coastal Children’s Clinic.  Reach Out and Read prepares our youngest children to succeed in school by partnering with doctors to prescribe books and encourage families to read together.  At each well child visit between the ages of 6 months and 5 years, healthcare providers talk with parents about the importance of reading aloud to their children and give every child a new book to take home and keep.  We hope to improve childhood literacy in Craven, Jones and Pamlico Counties through Reach Out and Read.

If you would like to get involved, we would appreciate donations of new children’s books to aid us in this endeavor.  It would be wonderful if you or your organization could help us promote literacy efforts in New Bern.
